Good times are here for residents of Rivers state who would love to
study oil and gas in a standard tertiary institution, as the President
Goodluck Ebele Jonathan approved the establishment of Federal
Polytechnic of Oil and Gas in Bonny, Rivers State with a take off grant
of N1 billion for the Polytechnic to commence academic activities.
According to information reaching us, the President also approved the appointment of Professor Elijah Tamuno Iyagba as the Polytechnic Rector, while Mr. Willabo A. Gilbert is to serve as Registrar.
The President of Nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan further approved the appointment of Mr Akpomeyoma Gabriel as Bursar and Mr Ata John Woke Ajala as Polytechnic Librarian. Also with the president at the occasion, is the supervising Minister of Education, Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, who when given the microphone, described the establishment of the Federal Polytechnic of Oil and Gas in Bonny, Rivers State as a practical expression of the President’s commitment to improving access to tertiary education, creation of employment and the empowerment of the youths with the necessary skills to contribute to national development and in realizing of the 2020 vision.
Barr. Mike also went on to stated that no previous administration in the history of Nigeria, has contributed to educational advancement the way the Jonathan administration has done since the year 2011. Most people won’t agree with this statement though, considering the strike by Polytechnics lecturers and COEASU since last year.
