Protesting lecturers at various tertiary institutions have been told that they have the backing of their national union, ASUU.

This was disclosed to our correspondent by the National Treasurer of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, Dr. Ademola Aremu, during a brief telephone conversation.

Lecturers at the University of Abuja were recently blamed for not being discreet in the way they are handling issues with their Vice-Chancellor while the striking lecturers at the Lagos State University, LASU, have vowed not to resume until their grievance are addressed.

Dr. Aremu believes that they are fighting a just cause which the national body clearly agrees with.

“The case in UNIABUJA has to do with the VC who has been lobbying so that the report by the government’s visitation panel will not be made public.

“He has been sitting on the panel for about two to three years now. There is no infrastructural development and the lecturers have been left without promotion for years These are the issues they are addressing,” he stated.

Dr. Aremu also added that, “the LASU management should pay their lecturers and see if work will not go on smoothly.

“These anomalies should be stopped at all costs because it is not helping our educational development in anyway.

“We cannot continue to be held to ransom by school authorities who are not following stipulated agreements and due process”.
