The management of Bingham University, New Karu has suspended about 1,000 students of the institution for their failure to attend a church service held on campus.
Bingham University is owned by the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) which values building a positive moral and religious attitude into their students.
The suspension is to last for 2-weeks while the affected students are to return to school at the expiry of the sanction with their parents.
According to the statement from the school to the parents: It read, “This is to inform you that your ward failed to attend worship service on Wednesday, June 11, 2014; this constitutes a contravention of the university rules and regulations as contained in the students’ handbook. The vice-chancellor has directed the suspension of your ward from Thursday, June 12, 2014 to Sunday, June 22, 2014.
“You are expected to bring back your ward to the university on Monday, June 23 2014 with a letter of undertaking to be of good behavior. The letter is to be countersigned by you.”
However, information coming from the university campus has it that the students are threatening to resist the suspension even as the school authorities have beefed up security on campus to forestall any protest.
