First Lady of Nigeria, Dame Patience Jonathan has expressed
her grief over the missing Chibok schoolgirls who were abducted by
suspected Boko Haram members 20 days ago as she was all tears yesterday
at a meeting she convened in Abuja.
Patience Jonathan had on Friday set up a committee headed by the Borno State governor’s wife to ensure attendance of several stakeholders at the said meeting which she convened to discuss the missing girls but the governor’s wife did not even show up for the meeting.
As if that was not enough, the principal of the affected school also came alone to Abuja unaccompanied by any teacher or parent, no student who escaped from the terrorists came for the meeting and the vigilante group, wife of the Chibok village head, the gateman of the school, chairman and secretary of the Parent Teachers Association and the school matron were also absent
Agitated by this, the first lady broke down in tears at the meeting and wept publicly. She was devastated that the school had no stand-by power generator and no extra security was provided at the school.
She insisted that the state government and the Commissioner for Education should be blamed for the abduction of the girls as they allegedly failed to act on the letter from the Minister of Education for relocation of West African School Certificate Examination (WASCE) candidates to Maiduguri or safer places.
Towards the end of the meeting, Patience was said to have broken down in tears once again saying: “You want to kill my husband; you want to make me a widow before you go and rest. My God will never make me a widow.”
