There was pandemonium on Thursday
in Nasarawa State over the alleged abduction threat letters sent to
three government secondary schools by members of the dreaded Boko Haram
group.
Students of Government Science Secondary
School (GSSS), Lafia which was one of the schools that got the
threat fled their hostels for fear of being abducted by the insurgents.
Available students who confirmed the
incident said that many of their colleagues have left the school while
they are waiting for the remaining students so that they escape
together.
Security operatives had been deployed to
the schools to forestall any intrusion as stern-looking mobile
policemen have already taken over the school premises.
Reacting, the state Commissioner for
Education, Yakubu Na’Hauwa, denied knowledge of the event, saying the
information that students had left hostels had not reached his office.
However, the state Police PRO, Ismaila
Numan, confirmed that the letter was received on Tuesday, adding that
the police had commenced investigations on its authenticity or
otherwise.
