The number of polytechnics pulling out
of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic (ASUP) strike continues to
grow as the management of Federal Polytechnic, Bida has ordered their
students back to school.
Announcing the new development, the Fed
Poly Bida PRO, Ruth Bawa said that the decision to pull out of the
strike was taken at the congress of the Bida Poly chapter of ASUP on
Tuesday July 1st, 2014.
Students are to note that lecturers
resumes immediately as the lecturers has agreed to suspend the strike
as the students are lagging behind academically and the school is yet to
conclude its 2011/2012 academic session.
The lecturers also pointed out that the
nine months old strike has crippled the Internally Generated Revenue
(IGR) of the institution, saying it is unacceptable.
As some other polytechnics has withdrawn
form the struggle, it remains to be seen how the ASUP strike which has
taken one academic calendar will fare as time goes on.
