Kaduna State Chapter of COEASU has pulled out and suspended the ongoing ASUP Strike. You will recall we also informed you that a number of Polytechnics have also pulled out of ASUP strike. Will things like these help COEASU and ASUP resolve the strike?
Read the full details of the Kaduna State COEASU Strike Suspension below:
The Kaduna State Chapter of Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union, Gidan Waya, has suspended its six-month old strike.
This is contained in a statement signed by the Chairman and Secretary of the union, Messrs Dadah Madaki and Noah Danlami, respectively, and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria in Kafanchan.
NAN recalls that the union embarked on an indefinite strike in January asking the state government to pay its members 20 per cent of Consolidated Tertiary Institution Salary Structure.
However, the statement said the decision to suspend the strike followed an “understanding” reached between the union and the state government.
It also said that the union observed that the state government was not in a position to pay the 20 per cent balance of CONTISS.
The union said that the government had however agreed to convert the present 80 per cent obsolete CONTISS to a percentage of its equivalent of the current Consolidated Polytechnics and Colleges of Education Academic Staff Salary Scale.
It said that the suspension was also necessitated by the state government’s willingness to pay the balance of CONPCASS to members of the union by January 2015, in addition to appeals from different quarters on the need to call off the strike.
The union expressed the hope that government would reciprocate the gesture by living up to the terms of the understanding reached between the two parties.
